Sam Konstas, the dynamic 19-year-old cricketer from Sydney, is set to make his debut for Australia in the Boxing Day Test. Known for his explosive batting and elegant style, Konstas will become the second youngest Australian Test debutant this century, following in the footsteps of captain Pat Cummins. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) is set at 1-1 after three games.
Sam Konstas: A debut to remember awaits
Konstas made a name for himself on the global stage with his standout performance in the 2023 Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he played a key role in Australia’s victory. His performances in domestic cricket for New South Wales have been impressive as well. Despite playing just 11 first-class matches, Konstas has mustered 718 runs at 42.23. Now, according to the Greek Herald, he is set to replace Nathan McSweeney in the Australian Test lineup.
Latest from BGT
Although initially overlooked for Australia A, Konstas’ blistering 107 off 97 balls against India for the Prime Minister’s XI led to a swift change in selectors’ thinking. Against the bowling lineup that featured Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna and Ravindra Jadeja, Konstas dominated. With Usman Khawaja out of form and Nathan McSweeney dropped, Konstas has earned his spot in the Australian squad for the Boxing Day Test.
