The scouting team of the Mumbai Indians (MI) is probably the best in the entire IPL. It looks like they rezognized an overseas domestic talent even before the respective national team! Bevon Jacobs, the 22-year-old batter recently picked by the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025 mega auction, has earned his first international call-up for New Zealand. Jacobs will feature in a three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, an emotional yet remarkable opportunity for the hard-hitting right-hander to showcase his potential on the global stage.
Who is Bevonn Jacobs?
Jacobs, born in South Africa and now representing New Zealand, is still an unfamiliar name to many. With just nine domestic T20 matches to his name, Jacobs has a strike rate of 188.73 and a highest score of 42 off 20 balls. Despite limited experience, his explosive hitting and finishing ability have caught the attention of the Mumbai Indians’ scouts, who secured him for his base price of ₹30 lakh (USD 35,000). Primarily a finisher for Auckland in New Zealand’s domestic competitions, Jacobs has also shown promise in longer formats, earning praise from national selector Sam Wells.
“He´s a promising player with a lot of talent and we´re looking forward to exposing him to international cricket,” New Zealand selector Sam Wells said. “He´s clearly got a lot of power with the bat, but he´s also shown in the longer formats that he has a decent technique and temperament.”
Jacobs will join a 13-man squad led by Mitchell Santner, featuring young talents like Zak Foulkes and Tim Robinson. The series kicks off at Mount Maunganui on Saturday.
