Rohit Sharma should drop Mohammed Siraj to partner Prasidh Krishna with Bumrah in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test

Having played all three IND vs AUS Tests so far, Mohammed Siraj should be rested for the Boxing Day Test and India should play Prasidh Krishna instead

India cricket team has not used the services of pacer Prasidh Krishna despite sending him to Australia nearly a month before the start of IND vs AUS Test series. Instead, the team opted to pick Akash Deep and Harshit Rana to pair with warhorses Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. While the former is undoubtedly India’s MVP in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the latter can afford to be rested. An just in case India are wondering who can be an apt replacement for Siraj, then it is none other than Prasidh Krishna.

India should play Prasidh Krishna instead of Siraj in IND vs AUS 4th Test

Prasidh Krishna has been in Australia for nearly two months now, and has a better understanding of the conditions in comparsion with Siraj. The Karnataka pacer was a part of India A’s XI in their tour against Australia A before the start of BGT. He managed to grab 10 wickets in those two games, including a best spell of 4/50 in Melbourne. Krishna has a natural height advantage that comes of good use for pacers in Down Under and something that Australia have exploited. While Siraj has the ability to bounce out the opposition, Prasidh stands a better chance – purely due to his 6 foot 2 inch frame. With that being said, he would be an asset to have in the side along with Jasprit Bumrah, which would mean Siraj would be rested.

It would be an understatement to say that Siraj deserves some rest. Considered one of the all-format bowler, the Hyderabad pacer has constantly been on the road since the Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home and has now been a part of all three IND vs AUS Tests. Surely, Siraj can afford to be rested given India’s bench strength. And that perfect replacement is Prasidh Krishna.

The Karnataka bowler played his last Test in January 2024 against South Africa. Krishna has pivoted himself towards red-ball cricket in 2024 and took part in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup tie. He has only played two Tests for India so far. However, he has the potential to taste success in Australia and India should use him to their advantage.
