There are many opinions right now, over Virat Kohli‘s form in Tests — this despite him scoring a ton in the second innings of the Perth Test. But in the ongoing IND vs AUS series, the 36-year-old has succumbed to his ‘outside-off’ weakness a few times, and that has been the main reason for his low scores so far.
Virat Kohli Out of Form?
He has managed to score 5, 100, 7, 11, and 3 in the three Tests till now. But then it would be a folly to consider him out of form, feels former South Africa legend Herschelle Gibbs. In an exclusive interview the 50-year-old told InsideSport that Virat could just be back to scoring a lot of runs at the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.
“Look, Virat Kohli’s standards are still high. He got a Test century a couple of weeks ago. So you don’t suddenly become a bad player within that period of time. He is a very proud cricketer, very proud of his stats — he demands very high standards of himself, and it’ll be wrong to write him off. He would have probably sat down with the batting coach, and he would know, what he’s doing wrong,” Gibbs sounded confident.
Virat to Score in MCG Test
“You don’t play for years and score 9000 Test runs without knowing what you’re doing wrong. Maybe, it could be a technical thing, but he knows how to score especially in the Boxing Day Test. It is going to be a huge occasion, and he loves them. I back him to make runs, definitely,” he added.
Meanwhile, speaking of the BGT series, it is locked at 1-1 for now, with two matches still to go. India has not lost a series to Australia in the last 10 years, and last two series’ Down Under, so would like to find a way to keep up their momentum.
