Less than a day after he announced his shocking retirement from international cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin arrived in Chennai from Australia on Thursday. The Tamil Nadu spinner decided to hang up his boots after the IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Brisbane, leaving the Indian team in a lurch. However, Ashwin has clearly state that while his international career has come to an end, he will continue to play for CSK in IPL 2025 for as long as he can.
Ashwin vows to play for as long as possible for CSK
On his arrival in Chennai following his retirement, the Tamil Nadu spinner was asked what holds for his future. Ashwin responded by saying that he intends to play for CSK as long as possible, adding that his decision to call it a day in international cricket was rather instinctive. Ashwin returned to CSK, the place where it all began for him 14 years before, after being picked up by the team in the IPL 2025 auction.
“I am going to play for CSK and don’t be surprised if I try and aspire to play for as long as I can. I don’t think Ashwin the cricketer is done, I think Ashwin the Indian cricketer has probably called it time. That’s it,” Ashwin said.

Ashwin revealed that he had been mulling retirement for a while but wasn’t a difficult decision for him to make. The veteran spinner added that it gave him immense satisfaction and relief to have called it a day at the right time.
“It’s not. It’s emotional for a lot of people. It will be emotional, maybe it will sink in. But for me, it’s a great sense of relief and satisfaction…It had been running in my head for a while but it was very instinctive. I felt it on day 4 and called it on day 5,” Ashwin told reporters.
