Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has responded to Prithvi Shaw’s criticism of his non-selection in Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25. For the unaware, yesterday, the MCA announced their team for the upcoming 50-over domestic tournament, which kicks off on December 21.
Prithvi Shaw dropped
Fascinatingly, Prithvi Shaw, who had scored 49 crucial runs in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) just two days ago and helped Mumbai win the title, wasn’t included. His overall performance in the tournament wasn’t that great, and given the issues MCA had with his fitness and discipline, they decided to drop him.
Shaw took to social media and expressed his displeasure with the decision by sharing his stats in List A cricket. This wasn’t overlooked. The MCA has retorted back. As mentioned above, Shaw’s got problems on and off the field. He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team for his disciplinary issues, work ethic, and fitness issues.

MCA highlights Prithvi Shaw’s fitness issues
After winning the SMAT title, Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai’s captain, had talked about how they had conveyed to Shaw what was expected of him. They recognise that he’s a special talent, but he hasn’t been able to use it. He ended by saying that no one will babysit Shaw, who is a professional cricketer.
“The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see,” a MCA source told Hindustan Times.
