Rohit Sharma pays tribute to “true OG & legend of Indian Cricket” Ravichandran Ashwin after retirement

Ashwin is the only player in the world who has taken more than 450 wickets and has hit more than five centuries.

After attending Ravichandran Ashwin‘s final press conference, Rohit Sharma has paid a heartfelt tribute to his teammate and old friend. Having played together for the last 14 years, the senior pros have shared great memories on and off the field. Since the legendary off-spinner called time on his career, the Indian captain penned a touching note for Ashwin.

Rohit Sharma heartfelt tribute to Ashwin

“We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match-winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young bowlers with the classic Ashwin action,” Rohit Sharma wrote.

“You are a true OG & legend of Indian Cricket & World Cricket and this team will miss having you. Wishing the best to you & your lovely family for what lies ahead,” he added.

Rohit Sharma stopped Ashwin from retiring in Perth

In the press conference, Rohit Sharma had claimed that Ashwin had wished to retire after the India vs Australia 1st Test in Perth, but he’d stop the spinner to think about his decision. The Indian captain added that he respects his decision and wishes the best for him.

“Heard about Ashwin’s retirement when I came to Perth… he understands what team is thinking, combinations what team is thinking. I convinced him to stay for the pink-ball Test. Some decisions are personal and there’s no need to question. Ashwin is allowed to make it on his own and we respect it. We back his thought process. For us, we have time to regroup and collect our thoughts. Whenever there was crisis, he was there. He is such a servant for Indian cricket he’s not left any stone unturned,” he’d said in Brisbane.
