Shoaib Akhtar‘s home stadium, Rawalpindi faces the possibility of losing the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy 2025, as the broadcasters have raised concerns over the logistical and financial implications of holding tournament in four venues. After BCCI refused to send Team India to Pakistan, a hybrid model was finally agreed upon, and Dubai was chosen as the location for all of India’s matches.
No Champions Trophy in Rawalpindi Stadium?
The other venues for the Champions Trophy 2025 are — Karachi, Lahore and of course, Rawalpindi for now. But as per various reports, the broadcasting from so many venues is only likely to increase the cost. While the number of venues has not been finalised as yet, Karachi, Lahore and Dubai are being considered as the primary venues, as per a report in Tribune.Com.pk.
That could perhaps be the reason as to why the Champions Trophy Schedule has not been revealed as yet. As per the hybrid model, both teams won’t play in India or Pakistan in any ICC event until 2027. This will also apply to Asia Cup in 2025, T20 World Cup in 2026, which are to be hosted by India.
CT Schedule Announcement When?
On the other hand, Pakistan and PCB are unlikely to get any compensation for accepting the hybrid model. The tournament for now, is scheduled to be played from February 19th to March 9th, yet there is no clarity on schedule as yet. Now, despite additional delays, the Champions Trophy schedule will most likely be out by this week.
