IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli’s childhood coach counters Gavaskar, says “I hope he suggests others also”

IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli's form hasn't been the best since the start of the year, and averages only 25 in 9 Tests he has played this year.

India ace batter Virat Kohli has been under fire for repeated failing with the bat. In the IND vs AUS Brisbane Test too, the 36-year-old fished for a delivery way outside off stumps, nicked it, and was caught behind. This has been his persistent problem, but his childhood coach thinks otherwise.

Virat Kohli’s Form Not a Worry

While speaking with PTI, Sharma suggested, it would be unfair to call Virat Kohli out-of-form, who scored a century in the Perth Test as well. He took a dig at legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who had criticised the batter for throwing his wicket away. “Sunil Gavaskar has been a great player and his suggestions are always welcome but I hope he suggests others also about their batting.”

“He has been performing well since 2008. It would be unfair to say that he is out of form based on two innings. He has already scored a hundred in this series. How many players have got a hundred in the series?” Sharma countered.

Virat Will Bounce Back in IND vs AUS Series

But then, Virat’s nemesis has been the first innings since the start of the Bangladesh series, where in 8 innings now, he has only 73 runs at an average of 9. “To be honest, I didn’t know much about the stats but the kind of player he is, he will bounce back. I think he is too good a player to be told anything and criticised because he has been the most consistent player in Indian cricket history,” the coach added.

In fact, Sharma went on to reveal that he did have a word with Virat, details of which cannot be revealed. “Nothing to do with the technique or even the mind, he is mature enough and understands the game,” he replied. “We have been talking to each other and talked about something that I wouldn’t say in public. But he is a mature enough player and knows where he is going wrong. He will bounce back and you’ll see that in the series itself,” he concluded.
