Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in all domestic and international competitions run by ICC-approved national cricket federations. This decision, announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday, follows Shakib’s earlier suspension by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) due to an illegal bowling action. As per ICC regulations, any suspension enforced by a national federation automatically applies across all ICC-governed competitions.
Was Shakib Al Hasan chucking?
The suspension stems from Shakib’s failure to pass an independent assessment of his bowling action at Loughborough University, a recognized ICC testing centre in the UK. This assessment followed concerns raised about his action during an English county cricket match in September. The ECB’s decision was subsequently extended worldwide, in line with ICC’s regulations on illegal bowling actions.

The BCB stated, “Shakib Al Hasan is now prohibited from bowling in all competitions, both domestic and international, under the authority of ICC-approved cricket boards. He may resume bowling only if he successfully clears a reassessment of his bowling action.”
While Shakib is still allowed to participate as a batter in all formats, his overall career remains in a state of flux. Currently, Shakib is playing in the Lanka T10 league but has not bowled in his recent matches. He has also been left out of Bangladesh’s recent ODI series against Afghanistan and West Indies. As a player who has already stepped back from Test and T20 cricket.
