From PM Modi to Indian cricketers: Celebrities congratulate D Gukesh for clinching World Chess Championship title

D Gukesh praised by prominent Indian figures after his historic win in the World Chess Championship, becoming the youngest champion.

D Gukesh is the new face of Indian chess, as the 18-year-old has become the youngest player to win the World Chess Championship. He is the second Indian, after Viswanathan Anand, to achieve this milestone in chess. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the grandmaster’s achievement and congratulated him, along with many other celebrities who hailed his fantastic win.

Gukesh defeated Ding Liren in Round 14 after both were tied at 6-6 points following 13 games. The Indian prodigy delivered a checkmate on Ding’s 48th move and secured victory on his 50th move.

PM Narendra Modi praised the new World Champion for his unparalleled talent, hard work and unwavering determination.

“Congratulations to Gukesh D on his remarkable accomplishment. This is the result of his unparalleled talent, hard work and unwavering determination. His triumph has not only etched his name in the annals of chess history but has also inspired millions of young minds to dream big and pursue excellence,” PM Modi wrote on his X handle.

Gukesh youngest player to win World Chess Championship

He’s only the second Indian after the great Vishwanathan Anand to become the World Chess Champion. Also he’s the youngest ever world chess champion, breaking the record of great Russian Chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov.
