D Gukesh has made history by becoming the youngest grandmaster to clinch the World Chess Championship title.

History has been made—D Gukesh has done it. At just 18 years old, he has become the youngest Grand Master to win the World Chess Championship. The way he clinched the victory, with a stunning last-moment move, has brought tears of joy and amazement to everyone in India.

D Gukesh became the World Chess Champion by defeating Ding Liren 0-1 in Round 14. The game seemed to be heading for a draw, but Gukesh’s outstanding move at the last moment made history. After Round 13, the game was tied, and had Round 14 also ended in a draw, a tiebreaker would have been played on December 13.

Fans get emotion after the historic win

Fans from all around India were in tears after the historic moment. Chess enthusiasts were in disbelief over what happened in the final moments of the game, as everyone was expecting a draw. Gukesh was down in the first game; however, his comeback is truly inspiring. Gukesh won the game with the black pieces, which is itself impressive.

Gukesh surreal win

The game began with Ding playing confidently, opting for the Reversed Grünfeld opening. Both players exchanged pieces strategically, maintaining an equal position for most of the match. However, Ding’s critical blunder during the endgame allowed Gukesh to take control. Gukesh capitalised on the mistake with precise moves, leaving Ding no choice but to resign after 50 moves.

The decisive moment came in the 48th move when Gukesh’s rook and pawn advanced aggressively, forcing Ding into a defensive position. Ding attempted a comeback but miscalculated his move, which tilted the game firmly in Gukesh’s favour.
