DRS, Dec 10: Champions Trophy verdict date out, Pant didn’t want DC’s retention & Shami fought Rohit Sharma?

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Match or not, cricket news never stops. That was certainly the case on December 9. Indian captain Rohit Sharma apparently had an argument with Mohammed Shami back in October. Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head have been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. The latest Champions Trophy development is also here, and we are told to expect some news by December 11. And finally, some blockbuster IPL news regarding potential Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Venkatesh Iyer and previous Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant.

Rohit Sharma vs Shami?

Mohammed Shami had a verbal spat with Rohit Sharma, according to reports. The pacer had met his captain at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in October when Team India was facing New Zealand in Bengaluru, and the two stars apparently got into it when the topic of Shami’s fitness and availability for the India vs Australia Test series came up.

Champions Trophy decision expected by December 11

Another final date for the Champions Trophy verdict is out. By Wednesday (December 11), one can expect the decision on the future of the event in Pakistan to be taken. The PCB had allegedly accepted the hybrid model but also put forth some demands. Whether the ICC will grant any PCB’s wishes and would PCB agree with what ICC has ruled will be interesting to watch unfold.

Rishabh Pant didn’t want to stay at Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals’ new head coach has dropped a bombshell ahead of the IPL 2025 season. He claims that Rishabh Pant didn’t wish to be retained because he wanted to earn more money. The wicketkeeper wasn’t satisfied with receiving Rs 18 crore as the top retention and therefore wanted to test the market at the auction. In the end, Pant proved to be right as he got 50% more than what was his retention price.

Siraj & Travis Head reprimanded

This was expected. Mohammed Siraj has been fined 20% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Siraj had gotten into it with Travis Head, giving the batter a send-off after dismissing him, which had inspired some verbal retorts from Head. The Aussie was also reprimanded; like Siraj, he was handed one demerit point but fortunately didn’t receive a fine.

Venkatesh Iyer, leader of KKR

Venkatesh Iyer wants to be a leader. Not exactly the captain of KKR for the IPL 2025 season but a leader in the dressing room. Venky wants to give inputs and suggestions that will help the team succeed. Of course, if granted the opportunity to captain, Venky is ready to take that honour with both hands, but if not, he’s happy to be a sound of reason.

Josh Hazlewood ready for Gabba Test?

Australia was pretty good in Adelaide. But they still have a chance to get better. How? Well, by bringing back Josh Hazelwood. The pacer was out of the 2nd game due to a side strain but seems to be at his best now. He bowled at full intensity on December 9, and by the end of December 10, we’ll know whether he’s fit to play in the India vs Australia 3rd Test in Brisbane.
