Mohsin Naqvi refuses to comment on Champions Trophy demands by PCB, says “will provide details” soon

15 boards, including the PCB and BCCI, were in a meeting with the ICC yesterday (December 7) to decide the future of the Champions Trophy 2025.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) isn’t ready to reveal their cards yet. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi refused to provide any details regarding the Champions Trophy 2025 following ICC’s meeting with cricket boards yesterday (December 7). The schedule for the 8-team tournament should have been out by November 11, but due to the stalemate between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the date keeps getting pushed back further and further.

ICC had scheduled a meeting on November 29, but it lasted just 15 minutes as neither board budged. The meeting was pushed to December 5, but it was postponed. A step towards progress may have been made, but it’s unclear what was discussed and whether the PCB and BCCI reached some common ground.

“I prefer not to delve into specifics at this time, as preserving our position is critical. Pakistan is playing a constructive role in the process and will continue to do so,” Mohsin Naqvi told reporters in Lahore.

“At this stage, I cannot comment further. There was a meeting on Saturday (December 7), and it was postponed. Once the ICC approves the decisions, we will provide all the details. Rest assured, we are doing our best to achieve an outcome that serves the best interests of Pakistan and international cricket. However, the final decision lies with the ICC,” the PCB Chief added.

PCB’s demands to BCCI & ICC

For the unaware, PCB had allegedly accepted the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy 2025 presented by the ICC but put forth four demands. These were:

  • Pakistan cricket team won’t play Team India in India in the upcoming ICC events
  • Compensation from ICC for moving 5 games outside of Pakistan, especially for the India vs Pakistan match which was scheduled to be played in Lahore on March 1
  • India will accept to play a tri-series with Pakistan and another nation in a neutral venue (likely UAE)
  • India and Pakistan be drawn in separate groups of the Champions Trophy 2025 (current they are in Group A with New Zealand and Bangladesh)
