Indian batter KL Rahul has said that he is happy to bat in any position as long as he gets a place in the playing XI. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, December 4, ahead of the India vs Australia pink ball Test in Adelaide, Rahul showed how his experience across formats has helped him simplify his approach to the game.
“I just want to be in the playing XI, go out there and bat and play for the team. I just go there and try and see what I need to do to get runs in a particular situation. Luckily I have batted in different positions. Early on, when I was asked to bat at different positions, it was a bit of a challenge mentally. How to play those first 20-25 balls? how early can I attack? Those things were a problem earlier, but it has gotten easy with the experience of playing in different formats.” Rahul shared.

India might see some changes in their lineup for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Adelaide. With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill likely to return, KL Rahul could move down to No. 5, replacing Dhruv Jurel in the playing XI.
Rahul has proven his versatility, batting in five different positions in Tests, openers’ slots, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6. However, Rahul remains unfazed, stating, “I just try to adapt to the situation and focus on how to get runs.”
However, Rahul has refused to disclose his batting position. “I’ve been told, but I’ve also been told not to share it today. You have to wait for Day 1, or it may be when the captain (Rohit Sharma) comes here tomorrow.” he said.

Reflecting on the game, Rahul said that he had ample time to prepare as the management had informed him early about his role as an opener.

The upcoming Day-Night Test against Australia will be Rahul’s maiden pink ball Test. He admitted to seeking advice from senior teammates about the challenges posed by the pink ball. “This is my first pink ball Test. I’ve been talking to experienced players to understand the adjustments needed. From practice, I noticed the ball behaves differently, so I’m trying to adapt,” Rahul said.
