Washington Sundar set to play IND vs AUS pink-ball Test in Adelaide

Washington Sundar is likely to play in the second Test at Adelaide. He was chosen over Ashwin and Jadeja, impressing in recent performances.

India’s off-spin all-rounder, Washington Sundar is expected to stay in India’s playing XI and is likely to feature in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide. The IND vs AUS 2nd Test is going to be a pink ball test, which is starting on December 6. This has set high expectations surrounding Sundar’s participation. A source from the BCCI revealed to TOI, “There’s a 90% chance that Sundar will play in the second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.”

Surprise selection over Jadeja and Ashwin

In a surprising decision during the first Test at Perth, the Indian team management chose Sundar over seasoned players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. This move paid off well as India won the Test by a big margin of 295 runs. Sundar managed to impress with figures of 0-1 and two for 48, and scores of 4 and 29 with the bat.

Impressive performances in recent warm-up matches

Sundar has shown good form recently. In a pink-ball tour match against Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra on November 30, he remained unbeaten with a score of 42 and took one for 38. His comeback in Tests has been impressive, notably against New Zealand where he took 11 wickets for 115 runs in the second Test at Pune.

IPL success with Gujarat Titans

Adding to his achievements, Sundar was recently picked up by the Gujarat Titans for a significant sum of Rs 3.2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, showcasing his value and skill in the Indian cricket landscape.
