Amid Champions Trophy tensions, former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif flaunts his Indian ancestry

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif is gaining attention once again, but this time he has something to say about his Indian connection.

Well, any Pakistan cricketer say, there is no harm in listening to them as they bring some humour out of it all the time, and that’s what we have witnessed. Recently, one of the finest wicketkeepers to play for Pakistan, Rashid Latif, claimed that he has Indian ancestry. Latif, who is in the news as a favorite, has always liked to be the center of attention. Known for his quirky, strong jibes, he is once again taking the center stage. In a video that has surfaced on social media, he was explaining how people from India’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh, are daring. According to him, his father was there before migrating to Pakistan around the 1950s.

Latif was seen proudly describing all his Indian connections and also mentioned that he has a half-brother who still lives in UP. “Mulq chhod diya hai, iska matlab logo ko bhool thodi na jayenge. Rang to neela hi rahega na humara. Ek humare bhai Sultanpur mein rehte hain aur humari 90 percent family Sultanpur mein rehti hai. Goro ne aisi hi nahi Uttar Pradesh ka naam Upper Province rakha tha. Our color will still remain blue, won’t it?” Latif said.

Rashid Latif on Champions Trophy

As mentioned, Latif is the news favourite, and this is certainly not the first time he is attracting attention. With all eyes on the ICC action and what they decide regarding the Champions Trophy, it seems that PCB may lose the rights to host the tournament fully. We might see some new solutions being introduced, and many Pakistani cricketers are unhappy about this. The same goes for Latif, who is certainly not happy with the hybrid model solution that is gaining support. He wants Team India to come to Pakistan to play in the Champions Trophy.

Will India go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy?

No and the reason why India is not traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy is due to security concerns, as it has clearly emerged that the Indian government has not given permission to the BCCI to send the Indian team for the Champions Trophy.

Has PCB agreed to the hybrid model for Champions Trophy ?

For now, things are more on the confusion side than yielding perfect results, as the ICC has had several meetings in the last few days discussing how the Champions Trophy will look in terms of its venue. Although there are chances that PCB may agree to this, reports suggest there are certain conditions for that. These include a neutral venue for Pakistan if India hosts ICC events, with the Champions Trophy semifinals and final being held in Pakistan if India is knocked out. Dubai will host all of India’s matches.
