Second to Kohli, however, has been Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been dubbed the ‘next big thing’ for Indian cricket. The cieling is massive for the southpaw. After all, he has made a habit of scoring daddy hundreds, something that he even did in Perth, hammering 161 runs.

Despite being just 22 years old, Yashasvi Jaiswal has forced everyone to take notice of him. It is not easy for someone to transit into the Indian team, but Jaiswal’s credentials have made him an undroppable, all-format opener. So far in 2024, he has hammered 1280 Test runs at an average of 58.18 and at a SR of 72.52. In fact, he is the second-highest run-getter in the format this year, only behind Joe Root (1361), who is probably the greatest Test batter of this generation.

Jaiswal has been on song, whether against England or the mighty Australians in Perth. Incredibly, Jaiswal’s incredible form has allowed him to close in on a fabulous record, currently held by Kohli. 2016 was an unprecedented year for Kohli, who not only set the IPL 2016 on fire, but also hammered 1215 Test runs. Incredibly, 1082 of those runs came in wins, ranking in top of the tally for the most Test runs in wins for India in a year.
Jaiswal could surpass this record if he makes 87 more runs than Kohli in Adelaide, provided that India win the encounter to take a 2-0 lead as well.
