Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the Bangladesh cricket team in the upcoming 3-match ODI series against the West Indies. The all-rounder is currently leading their Test team as regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is sidelined due to a groin injury. Seen as Shakib Al Hasan’s successor, now seems the time when Mehidy takes over the captaincy role.
Miraz takes over Shanto as captain
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the team days before the West Indies vs Bangladesh ODI series starts on December 8 in Saint Kitts and Nevis. “All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is still recovering from a groin injury,” BCB said in a statement.

Injuries
Two other players weren’t selected due to injury. Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim fractured his left index finger while Towhid Hridoy suffered a groin injury like Captain Shanto.
“Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region, and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised rest, and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play,” according to BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.
Zakir Hasan dropped
While three players weren’t available, Zakir Hasan, who recently featured in the Afghanistan ODI series, has been dropped. Batting at three, Zakir had scored just 4 runs in the same game he was given. The southpaw’s List A record isn’t flattering, and after just one chance, he’s been dropped.
“Fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was in the team in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped,” BCB added.
