One of the most pertinent questions is when Mohammed Shami will join Team India for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The veteran pacer is currently in India and undergoing work to build on his fitness. Shami returned to domestic cricket after a year of inactivity playing in the domestic setup and thus is gearing to be ready re-join India for the IND vs AUS Test series.
As things stand, Mohammed Shami now faces a race against time to be ready for the conclusion of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. India won the Perth Test in a handsome fashion and will be willing to do the double on Australia in the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide.
Will Mohammed Shami travel to Australia?
But Mohammed Shami’s travel to Australia is currently set on hold. He is now currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team all the time. After playing a Ranji Match against Madhya Pradesh, Shami is now taking part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Bengal. And until Shami receives 100% match fitness, he won’t be available for the National Team setup.
With the passage of time, it looks highly unlikely that Shami can recover in time for the BGT. His last outing in National colors came in the ODI World Cup final against Australia. Following this he underwent an ankle surgery and is now en route to find his 100% fitness. The BCCI Medical team wants Shami to reduce his weight so that he can return to the national setup.
While 4 more Test matches remain in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Shami won’t be a part of the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide which starts on 6th December. If he manages to regain his fitness in the next few days, he can make a late dash and can be a part of the last 2 Test matches of the series.
