Batting first in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020/21, India scored 244 runs courtesy of a half-century (74) from then-captain Virat Kohli. Australia pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins picked up 4 and 3 wickets respectively. In reply, the home side were bowled out for 191 runs, after India’s R. Ashwin picked up 4 wickets.

However, a tornado was awaiting India in the second innings when they were bowled out for 36 runs as none of the batters went past the single digit.

The destructor-in-chief was Josh Hazlewood, whose accuracy in lengths helped him finish with a figure of 5/8 and Cummins picked up 4/21 as well. In the chase, Australia cruised through the target of 91 runs and won by 8 wickets.
