India clinched a six-wicket win against Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Day 2 of their practice match ahead of upcoming contest in Adelaide. India’s chase ended with a score of 257/5 in 46 overs, achieving the target set by the hosts. The two-day practice match was washed off on Day 1, so both teams played 1-1 innings in the match to decide the result. Recently, BCCI shared the highlights of the practice match with the pink ball. Despite Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah not playing, they hit the nets.
Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, and Ravindra Jadeja showed good bowling on the Australian pitch at Manuka Oval. Harshit Rana was particularly impressive, taking crucial wickets. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s spin added variety to the attack. Behind the stumps, Sarfaraz Khan took over wicketkeeping duties.
Prime Minister’s XI innings
After being put to bat by India, PM XI managed 240 runs before getting all out. Their innings were highlighted by an outstanding century from Sam Konstas. Despite a promising start, a middle-order collapse saw their innings wrapped up quickly. Harshit Rana was instrumental with the ball, claiming four wickets and triggering the downfall of the PM XI middle order.
India’s bowling performance
Harshit Rana emerged as a key bowler for India, taking crucial wickets to stifle PM XI’s momentum. Alongside Harshit, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep showcased disciplined bowling spells, restricting the flow of runs and keeping pressure on the batsmen throughout the innings.
India’s chase
India, led by the openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, began their chase steadily. Jaiswal scored a quick 45, accompanied by Shubman Gill, who retired on 50 to give others a chance. In the middle, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja played crucial roles instabilisingg the innings after a brief stutter.
Towards the end of the chase, Washington Sundar (unbeaten on 42) played a composed innings, ensuring there were no further hiccups as India reached the target comfortably with 19 balls to spare. Sarfaraz Khan and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed, ensuring regular run flow and easing the pressure.
Rohit is satisfied
Post-match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasised the importance of practice matches in adapting to the pink ball. He appreciated the support from fans and looked forward to upcoming matches in Australia.
With this win, India shifts focus towards the second Test in Adelaide in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, gearing up for more competitive cricket.
