While Team India had a frustrating Day 1 of their practice game against the Prime Minister’s XI, Shubman Gill, along with other coaching staff members, was involved in a fun fielding drill session. The ‘Prince of Indian cricket’ has been on the sidelines ever since he injured his left thumb during a match simulation. But now, he looks all fine, especially in the entertaining video shared by the BCCI on their social media channels.
WATCH: Shubman Gill fun banter with Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip
During the 90 seconds of fun, Shubman Gill and India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, were tasked to hitting the stump in what was a bit challenging drill. They were put behind the white popping line and had to aim for only one practice stump with the pink ball. After a couple of tries, Gill was the first one to hit the base of the stump. Incredibly, Nayar pointed out that in a ‘real’ scenario, bails wouldn’t have fallen. Listening to that, Gill shockingly replied, “Bail gira nhi hoga usme? Pagal ho kya? (Wouldn’t the bail fall with that? Are you mad?)
The fielding drill continued before India’s fielding coach T Dilip joined the bandwagon. Being the fielding coach of the national team, the 44-year-old had the last laugh when he uprooted the stumps with an inch-perfect throw from the far end. The video showed that the Indian team has been enjoying a playful spirit following their historic Perth triumph. On November 30, their Day 1 of the practice game in Canberra was washed out. But tomorrow (Dec 1), India will play in a 50-over per-side affair. It will be interesting to see if Gill plays the practice game.
