India’s top shuttler PV Sindhu storms into the semifinals of the Syed Modi India International 2024. In a dominant performance during the women’s singles quarterfinals, Sindhu defeated World Ranked 118th China’s Dai Wang with a straight-gams victory, 21-15, 21-17. The match, lasting just 48 minutes, showed top seed Sindhu’s agility and dominance. Sindhu is still waiting for her first BWF title since 2022. Sindhu will be facing her compatriot Unnati Hooda in the semifinals.
Sindhu got some fight
In the match, Sindhu showed her dominance with a solid performance. Both players managed to score a maximum of four consecutive points during the game. However, Sindhu had more control throughout, converting three game points while Wang couldn’t capitalise on any. The match saw no challenges from either player. Out of 74 total points played, Sindhu won 42, securing her victory in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-17.
Sindhu’s wait for the BWF title to end?
PV Sindhu has long been a prominent figure in Indian badminton, though her recent performances have lacked consistency. Her most recent championship win came at the Singapore Open in 2022. Earlier this year, she reached the finals of the Malaysia Masters, but her overall campaign has been affected by early tournament exits, such as an unexpected first-round loss in Finland to Canada’s Michelle Li. A victory at the Syed Modi International would mark her first BWF title in two years. Being the top seed in the tournament, she should win this one.
Dhruv and Tanisha into semifinals
In the doubles quarterfinals, India’s Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto delivered an impressive performance against Malaysia’s Loo Bing Kun and Ho Lo Ee. The Indian duo won the match in straight sets, taking the first game 21-16 and sealing the victory with a dominant 21-13 score in the second game. The fifth-seeded duo of Dhruv and Tanisha will face China’s fourth-seeded pair of Zhou Zhi Hong and Yang Jia Yi in the semifinals.
