After a lackluster performance last season with RCB, the Bengaluru franchise decided to release Glenn Maxwell, which they did. Maxwell entered the recently held IPL 2025 auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore. Surprisingly, not many teams showed interest in him this time. The swashbuckling Australian batter has previously sparked bidding wars in past IPL auctions, often fetching over Rs 10 crore. However, this time the scenario was entirely different.

As mentioned, not many teams bid for him, but finally, Chennai Super Kings opened the bid, and Punjab Kings also jumped in. Since PBKS had a large purse in the auction, they managed to buy this Australian player. If we look at PBKS’s history with Maxwell, he has been a key player for them. From 2014 to 2020, he was especially impactful in the first three to four seasons. In 2014, he was at his best, almost single-handedly taking the team to the finals. He scored 552 runs at a whopping strike rate of 187.75. After that, he played for RCB, taking on a supporting role over the last four seasons. However, his poor performance in IPL 2024 led to RCB releasing him. Now, Maxwell is set to play for PBKS in the upcoming IPL.
