Urvil Patel just created history at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore. The wicketkeeper batter who went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction just two days ago has just the fastest T20 hundred of all-time in the Gujarat vs Tripura match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25. Urvil had set his base price at Rs 30 lakh, as most of the uncapped players did at the auction but did not receive a bid.
Poor IPL auction luck
Two years ago, he went to the Gujarat Titans for Rs 20 lakh but didn’t get to play a game for them. With the new SMAT season starting just two days before the auction, Urvil didn’t get a chance to showcase his talent. And now, he hits a 28-ball century, which happens to be the second fastest of all-time, behind Nepal’s Sahil Chauhan’s 27-ball ton. One can only imagine what might have happened had this knock come just a couple of days ago.
Urvil Patel hits a 28-ball century in SMAT
Coming to his innings. Chasing 156, Gujarat started great. Well, not Gujarat but Urvil. Because the first wicket stand was 150, out of which Aarya Desai scored just 38. In the end, the keeper on his own chased the total down in just 10.2 overs. Urvil faced 35 of the total 62 balls and scored 113 runs at a strike rate of 322.85. Of the 35 deliveries he faced, 19 went to the boundary (7 fours and 12 sixes).
