One of the players who was expected to be rage at the IPL Auction 2025, apart from Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, was all-rounder Washington Sundar. The value he adds as an explosive lower-order batter and a miserly bowler, his ability is considered second to none. In fact, in one of the mock auctions, Washington was sold to 12.5 Cr to LSG.
But what transpired on Monday, during the second day of the IPL Auction, was not expected at all. Washi was sold only for a meagre 3.2 Cr to GT. Firstly, all the teams overspent on the first day, and there was a lot of reluctance to bid for the all-rounder initially. Post that, GT raised the first paddle. LSG did also come into the mix soon. But the price could not even cross the 4 Cr mark.
Washington Sundar was with SRH until 2024 season, and only played 2 matches there. He picked up only one wicket and did not get a chance to score any run. But then overall, in 60 matches, he picked up 37 wickets and had an economy of 7.54. He was in decent form in international cricket, especially in the IND vs NZ series, where he shone with the ball.
In two Tests there, he managed to pick up 16 wickets, and score a few runs as well. In the IND vs AUS Perth Test, he did come up with notable performance too, picking up three wickets, and scoring 33 runs in all.
