Rohit Sharma joined Team India’s dressing room during the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth on the fourth day. He isn’t part of the match initially because he was in Mumbai with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, and daughter, Samaira, for the birth of his second child. During the fourth day of the match, Rohit Sharma is seen sitting in the dressing room along with head coach Gautam Gambhir, watching the dominant Indian side in Perth.
Arriving midway through the Test
After his son’s birth, it was expected that he might join the Perth Test, he prioritised family, but later, he flew to Australia midway and joined the team. On Monday, Rohit was seen in the dressing room with coach Gautam Gambhir. He had left Mumbai on Saturday, reached Perth on Sunday, and joined the team the next day, providing valuable input on the fourth day.
Captaincy dynamics in Indian team
Although it seems his input might not be urgently needed since half of the Australian team had already been dismissed, and they still trailed by over 400 runs at the time of writing. In Rohit’s absence, Jasprit Bumrah was leading the team, but with Rohit’s return, he took over the captaincy, and Bumrah resumed as vice-captain.
Preparations for the next Test
Before the second Test in Adelaide, Rohit will play a two-day practice match and will also do some net practice. Meanwhile, there’s a dilemma about the batting order since KL Rahul performed well in Perth and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century. If Shubman Gill returns at number three, it raises questions about where KL Rahul will fit in.
Rohit Sharma played his last Test against New Zealand, where the team got hammered by the Kivis in a whitewash. This left the captain disappointed. Hope this series will give an assurance and a major boost to the team for the World Test Championship.
