Shreyas Iyer gets ready for IPL 2025 Auction by scoring stunning century in SMAT

Shreyas Iyer was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders after he won them an IPL trophy after 10 years.

Shreyas Iyer has made his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction case even stronger. Virtually confirmed as one of the most sought-after players in Jeddah, the Mumbai captain scored a scintillating hundred against Goa in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25.

Shreyas Iyer smokes 130* before IPL 2025 auction

Shreyas arrived in the middle with the score reading 9/1 in 1.1 overs. His Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai teammate, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, had departed after facing just four deliveries, and he joined Prithvi Shaw in a 57-run stand. Three more wickets fell in the first innings, including that of Ajinkya Rahane, but Shreyas stayed put throughout.

Mumbai ended up scoring a whopping 250 runs. 130 of these runs came from the right-handed batter’s willow, and that too in just 57 deliveries. Not seen as a proficient six-hitter, Shreyas hit 10 maximum and 11 fours. The Mumbai captain has been in good touch in the shortest format and enjoyed a good IPL 2024 season. But his performance was overshadowed by the likes of Sunil Narine, Phil Salt, and Venkatesh Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer, perfect captaincy candidate for PBKS, DC, LSG, RCB & KKR?

Shreyas was going to be one of the hottest players at the IPL 2025 mega auction alongside Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul. But, to make his case stronger than theirs, he’s decided to show what a beast he can be in T20 cricket, and that too on the eve of the event in Jeddah.

One can’t forget he’s an IPL-winning captain. It wasn’t a fluke either. Shreyas Iyer has also taken the Delhi Capitals to the final as well, in 2020. Half of the franchises will be interested in getting him. Not only is he a great middle-order batter, but DC, Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and even his franchise, the KKR, are in need of a captain.

He ticks several boxes. His age (29) also helps, as he can take over a team for at least the next five years. Don’t be surprised if there’s a vicious bidding war for him and he goes over Rs 15 crore.
