Jasprit Bumrah led India bowled out Australia for their second lowest score against the visitors

Be it Anil Kumble or Kapil Dev, Indian captains have often performed well against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Jasprit Bumrah’s latest fifer makes him one of the coveted Indian skippers to pick up a five-wicket haul against the Aussies. Here we take a look at 3 captains who had the best bowling figures against Australia in BGT.

Kapil Dev: 8 for 106

Kapil Dev has arguably been one of the best captains to lead the India cricket Team. And one of his most remarkable performances came against Australia in 1985-86. The ace all-rounder went on to bag 8 wickets by giving away just 106 runs. Playing at the Adelaide Oval, India needed a strong performance to help Australia restrict from reaching 381 runs.

Kapil Dev performed under pressure to help his side etch out a stunning draw against the mighty Aussies led by Allan Border. Kapil Dev’s performance became a fulcrum for India to perform well in overseas conditions.

Anil Kumble: 8 for 141

  • Match Details:

Anil Kumble stole the headlines for India in the 4th Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2003-04. Though India went on to lose the Test match, Kumble’s performance will be remembered for his 8-wicket haul.

The veteran spinner went on to scalp 8 wickets by giving away just 141 runs. Taking on a formidable Australian batting lineup, Kumble extracted everything from the pitch to get the variable bounce and the ability to turn the ball.

Jasprit Bumrah: 5 for 30

  • Match Details:
    • Series: India Tour of Australia, Perth Test 2024-25
    • Venue: Perth Stadium, Perth

Captaining the Indian Cricket Team in his 2nd Test match, Jasprit Bumrah produced a bowling masterclass. Leading the charge from the front, he went on to bag a stunning fifer as Australia crumbled under his pressure. Bumrah was instrumental in helping India make a comeback in the game. India was bowled out for 150, but Bumrah’s antics helped his side bowl out the opposition for just 104 runs. And with this fifer, Bumrah registered his 11th Test fifer away from home.
