IPL Auction: Shreyas Iyer, despite winning the IPL trophy in 2024, wasn't retained by KKR. They have the option of buying him in Auction.

Just about any murmur to do with IPL Auctions, is a news these days. Now as per an unconfirmed report in Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer, the former KKR skipper could well be on his way to DC, his previous franchise. This year, at the IPL Retentions, while Iyer was let go by KKR, Rishabh Pant was shown the exit door by DC. The report also talks about the “deal going through” between the IPL-winning skipper and DC.

KKR vs DC for Shreyas Iyer?

But of course, despite the deal, nothing can be confirmed since all the other teams will be in fray too. KKR could once again bid for the India cap, that make things interesting, but have a purse of only 51 Cr. DC on the other other are in a better position to get him, and have a purse of 73 Cr remaining.

Other teams could be in the running too. One of the contenders could be PBKS, who have a purse of INR 110 Cr left with them, who would be looking for a solid skipper. The chances can be rated high since they have roped in Ricky Ponting as their head coach, who has a good working relationship with Shreyas Iyer at DC.

IPL Auction 2025

For the record, Iyer is a seasoned captain in the IPL and has been in that position since 2018. In 70 matches as a leader till now, he has won 38 and lost 29. That brings his win% to 54, one of the better ones in the IPL. Meanwhile, it must be reminded that the IPL Auction will take place in Jeddah on November 24, 25.
