Devdutt Padikkal’s Test debut against Australia was not something that he wished for in the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. The southpaw departed for a duck after failing to open the scoring in the 23 deliveries that he faced. India is in dire straits after the loss of three quick wickets in the form of Padikkal, Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli.
Devdutt Padikkal found his way into the crease early on in the innings after the quick dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal. But he too failed to bite his mark into the game after being dismissed without bothering the scoreline.
Devdutt Padikkal falters against Australia
“He looked in a defensive frame of mind and wasn’t looking to score. He got a couple of length deliveries from Cummins in the over, but did not score of those. Had he scored there, maybe his frame of mind would have been different,” Ravi Shastri said after his dismissal.
Ravi Shastri didn’t take it very kindly after the poor show by Devdutt Padikkal. The southpaw got his chance in the team after Shubman Gill was ruled out of the Test match with an injury. But the batter, playing only his second Test match, didn’t look too confident to bat.
He failed to middle the shots and looked way too defensive in his approach. Shastri pointed out that in the over from Pat Cummins, he got deliveries where he should have scored but decided otherwise. This instead continued to build a pressure on the batter and he was eventually dismissed for a duck after staying in the crease for 23 delvieries.
