The IPL 2025 auction is right around the corner and will happen on 24th and 25th November. In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, over 500 players are hoping to join one of the 10 IPL teams. Among the big names is Quinton de Kock, the South African wicketkeeper and destructive opener. He has set his base price at 2 crore rupees. Let’s see why he might get a big deal or why he might not be picked in the auction.
Why Quinton de Kock might get big bids
Quinton de Kock is one of the best T20 batters in the world. He is great at starting the innings with big shots. Since his first IPL in 2013, he has played well for many teams like SRH, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, and Lucknow Super Giants. Being both a wicketkeeper and an opener, he is very useful for teams. Many teams haven’t kept their regular openers or wicketkeepers this year. Teams like Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals might want him strongly and could offer a lot of money for him in the auction.
Why QDK might not be picked
Even though Quinton is known to be a top T20 player, his recent form in IPL is not that strong. In 2023, he played only 4 matches and scored 143 runs. In 2024, he played 11 matches but scored just 250 runs, which is not impressive. He also retired from international ODI and Test cricket and plays only T20 leagues now.
His last T20 match for South Africa was in the World Cup in June. Since then, he hasn’t played for South Africa and only joined smaller leagues. The IPL is very tough as top players globally take part, so playing well here is challenging. Also, his base price of 2 crore rupees might discourage some teams because they don’t have enough money to spend. Even teams with big purse like Punjab Kings don’t have him in the plans.
What will happen in the Auction?
While some players are almost sure to get a team, Quinton de Kock’s situation is tricky. He is very talented but not in his best form right now. It will be interesting to see if he gets a high bid or if teams pass on him during the auction.
