Petrified PSL teams pen joint letter to new CEO over concerns on clashing with IPL 2025

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have penned a letter to the new CEO seeking clarity on the participation of England stars as the tournament is set to clash with IPL 2025

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises are in a limbo, with the PCB planning to host the 10th edition of the tournament at the same time as IPL 2025. The teams had already expressed concerns over the availabitly of overseas players earlier, noting that most of them would prefer participating in the Indian Premier League over the PSL. Now, the teams have penned a fresh letter to the PSL CEO, expressing their concerns.

PSL franchises fear clash with IPL 2025

As per Cricket Pakistan, the PSL franchises penned a joint letter to newly appointed CEO Salman Naseer about their concerns. They reportedly asked the official to get in touch with England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to seek clarity on the availability of the England players in PSL 10. It is pertinent to point out that the ECB had earlier categorically stated that their players would be barred from participating in any other league apart from the IPL during the period of March-June 2025.

Earlier, various teams raised concerns in a joint letter, demanding a Governing Council to address the issues. The letter, as per the report, talks about the concerns over the dates of the PSL, which is scheduled to be in April and May after the Champions Trophy 2025.

The team owners weren’t convinced that clashing with the IPL will help them commercially. The letter also talks about the feasibility of holding four matches of the tournament outside Pakistan. Detailed costs for the same, and also the advantages for the move have also been asked.

The England Cricket Board had also refused the request of PSL franchises to host the playoffs in England. They had cited unavailability of grounds as a reason for not being able to accommodate the matches. It is almost certain that most England players would prefer to participate in IPL 2025 than in PSL 10, making matters worse for Pakistan.
