First look at the Perth Test pitch for India vs Australia revealed

The first look at the Perth pitch for the India-Australia Test match is out. The drop-in pitch promises a fast, bouncy challenge, resembling the famous WACA conditions.

The first look at the pitch for the upcoming first Test match between India and Australia is out, and it promises a challenging start for the Indian team. After playing on dusty pitches at home, India will face a tough test on the bouncy Optus Stadium pitch, which looks like the pitch of the WACA ground nearby. The drop-in pitch, which was prepared in September, has local clay and grass similar to those at the WACA.

What to expect from the Perth Pitch for IND vs AUS 1st Test?

Ahead of the 1st Test in Perth, recently, WA Cricket head curator Isaac McDonald shared his take on what to expect from the Perth pitch. McDonald highlighted the pitch’s pace, bounce, and carry, offering a challenging environment for both teams, according to Cricinfo. “Both bowling units were pretty rapid last year and hoping for much the same this year. But, as we saw last year, good batters were able to take the game on and put away balls and score runs quickly.” he said.

The last Test at Optus Stadium saw Australia dominate with a 360-run victory against Pakistan, thanks to the fiery surface that favoured pacers. Australia has been undefeated in the four Tests played at this venue.

India to struggle in Perth Pitches?

For Indian batters, especially the top-order, the pitch could be a challenge. With Rohit Sharma likely missing the 1st Test and Virat Kohli looking to regain form, the surface will also add some pressure. India last faced Australia in Perth in 2018, and they suffered a 146-run defeat there. The upcoming Test is crucial for India to solidify a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
