3 reasons why Harry Brook could go unsold in IPL 2025 mega auction

Harry Brook, despite his impressive T20I strike rate, might go unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.

As the IPL 2025 auction is almost here, excitement is building. The mega auction will take place in Jeddah on 24th and 25th November 2024, and several players are ready to go under the hammer. This year, however, there is a possibility that England’s star batter Harry Brook might not attract any bids and could go unsold. Here are the reasons why Harry Brook might struggle to find a team this year.

1. Poor IPL performance

Harry Brook may have a strike rate of 150 in T20 internationals, but his IPL performance has not been up to expectations. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, Brook managed to score just 190 runs in 11 matches. Although he scored a century in one match, it was a rare highlight. In the remaining matches, he averaged only 9 runs per match, which is considered very poor. This disappointing performance has raised questions about his value in the IPL.

2. Not in the spotlight

Another factor working against Harry Brook is his lack of attention this year. Most IPL teams have already secured solid batters in their squads through retention. Last year, Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals for 4 crore rupees, but he was injured and could not play. This meant he missed out on the opportunity to showcase his skills and make a comeback into the IPL. As a result, other players who played regularly last season have stolen the limelight, leaving Brook behind.

3. Huge base price

One of the main reasons why Harry Brook could go unsold is his high base price. His base price for this auction is 2 crore rupees, which is quite high, especially when many top Indian and foreign players are also up for grabs. Teams are likely to focus on players who offer more all-round options, especially foreign players. While Brook is a talented batter, his inability to contribute as an all-rounder could make it difficult for teams to justify the high price tag.
