‘Want Bumrah to remain as captain’: Harbhajan Singh urges Team India to have one captain for entire series

India will play the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy on 22nd November in Perth

Former India Cricket Team ace spinner Harbhajan Singh has claimed that he wants one captain throughout the Border Gavaskar Trophy. His comments come after Rohit Sharma misses out on the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. In Rohit’s absence, it will be Jasprit Bumrah who will spearhead the team.

Rohit Sharma will miss the opening Test after recently becoming a father for the second time. Initially, Sunil Gavaskar claimed that he wants Bumrah to continue as captain for the remainder of the series, even when Rohit makes a comeback for the Adelaide Test.

Who should captain India from 2nd Test onwards?

Harbhajan Singh has claimed that he wants Jasprit Bumrah to remain as the captain if India wins the first two Test matches. He also claimed that the Indian fans would want Rohit to resume captaincy if India loses the first two changes too.

“If you win the first two Tests, then all Indians would want Bumrah to remain as captain. On the contrary, if India lose both of those games, they would want Rohit to return. We change sides very quickly. I’m not talking about Sunny sir here; I’m talking about the general public,” Harbhajan Singh said.

I feel it’s a great suggestion to have one captain for the entire series. That would be better. If India lose, nobody will question it. However, if India win and Rohit returns for the subsequent matches and then the team lose, that will spark a whole different scenario. But if India lose under both Rohit and Bumrah, they might want Virat Kohli as captain,” he said.

When Harbhajan was asked about Sunil Gavaskar’s idea, he backed it claiming Bumrah has what it takes to lead the team. “It might not be a bad idea. There shouldn’t be any problem as well because Bumrah has the ability to lead a team.”
