Rohit Sharma confirmed to miss IND vs AUS 1st Test, to link up with side ahead of Adelaide match

As per reports, Rohit Sharma is confirmed to miss IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth which is scheduled to begin from November 22

India cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma will miss the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. As per ESPNCricinfo, the Hitman will join the Indian team just before the day-night Test in Adelaide. While Rohit had dropped a hint of missing the 1st Test following IND vs NZ 3rd Test, it has now been confirmed by the batter himself.

Rohit Sharma to miss IND vs AUS 1st Test

As per ESPNCricinfo, Rohit Sharma had informed the selectors and the BCCI earlier that he was likely to miss IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. The reason cited was personal – the birth of his second child. Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh were blessed with a baby boy on Friday. Sources had also confirmed that Sharma intended to spend more time with his family and that he would indeed miss the 1st Test in Perth.

The report states that Rohit Sharma is expected to join the side before IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide. While he was open to making a last-minute trip to Australia, Sharma has now decided against it. However, Rohit Sharma has informed the BCCI of his willingness to participate in the pink-ball warm-up game against Australian Prime Minister’s XI ahead of the 2nd Test.

Who will replace Rohit Sharma in IND vs AUS 1st Test?

India are tasked with finding a replacement for the opener’s role in place of Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul is the frontrunner, having shrugged off injury concerns to return to training on Sunday. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran – India’s back-up openers – have tasted very little success in India A’s tour against Australia A ahead of the series. With Shubman Gill suffering an injury to his finger, India are left with very few choices for finding a replacement for Rohit Sharma. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will get underway from November 22 onwards.
