Ex-Australia pacer wants team to target “emotional” Virat Kohli in IND vs AUS Test series

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath stressed on the need for the team to capitalize on an out-of-form Virat Kohli in the upcoming IND vs AUS Test series

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has asked the side to target an emotional Virat Kohli in the upcoming IND vs AUS Test series. All eyes will be on the batting maestro in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as India hope that he can break free from the shackles of poor form. McGrath pointed out that Virat Kohli was under pressure at present, given his poor form in the longest format of the game in 2024.

“Australia should go after emotional Virat Kohli”

Speaking to the Herald Sun, McGrath opined that Australia should target an out-of-form Virat Kohli in IND vs AUS Test series. He cited the batter’s poor performances in IND vs NZ Test series and reckoned that Australia should capitalize on the pressure that Virat Kohli is facing currently. McGrath believes that getting rid of an emotional Kohli in the 1st Test could help Australia contain the Indian batter in the rest of the series.

If they go hard at him, if he gets in the fight with emotions, there’s a bit of chat out there, who knows he might sort of lift. But I think he’s probably under pressure a little bit, and if he has a couple of low scores to start with, he could really feel it. I think he’s quite an emotional player. When he’s up, he’s up, and when he’s down, he sort of struggles a little bit,” McGrath said.

Virat Kohli’s miserable form in 2024

Virat Kohli isn’t at his usual best this year in Tests and it was pretty evident in the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home. He managed to score just 93 runs in three Tests against the Kiwis, emerging as a big headache for India ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His performances in IND vs BAN Tests were also sub-par. Having played only 5 Test matches this year, Virat Kohli will be under tremendous pressure in Down Under to deliver with the bat.
