India cricket team have a uphill task at hand in finding their new opener for IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. Reports have claimed that Rohit Sharma will be unavailable for the series opener. At the same time, back-up options KL Rahul and Shubman Gill have sustained injuries during the intra-squad game before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This leaves India with just two obvious choices for an opener – namely Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Who will replace Rohit Sharma as opener in IND vs AUS 1st Test?

Despite having a good run in the domestic circuit, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Ruturaj Gaikwad have failed to fire in the tour against Australia A. In two matches, the Bengal opener has managed to score just 36 runs while Gaikwad has scored just 20 runs. The Indian squad does not have any other specialist opener apart from the above mentioned stars. Other options including KL Rahul and Gill have been more or less ruled out, at least for the 1st Test.
