6 days, 3 injuries, Team India on backfoot before Border Gavaskar Trophy

India is slated to play the 1st Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy on 22nd November in Perth

Troubled times continue for the India Cricket Team. If the 3-0 whitewash at home wasn’t enough, now the visitors have been plagued with 3 injuries in 6 days before the Border Gavaskar Trophy. First, it was KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, and now on Day 2 of the intra-squad-friendly Shubman Gill is injured.

Adding more concern is the uncertainty of Rohit Sharma. It remains to be seen if the Indian skipper travels to Australia and prepares in time for the opening Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

KL Rahul – Elbow injury

India’s opening spot uncertainty continues. KL Rahul suffered a blow on his elbow early on Day 1 of the intra-squad friendly and couldn’t continue. He tried to play but the physios didn’t want to take the added risk of allowing an injured player to bat. It is now unsure if KL Rahul will be fit for the match.

KL Rahul is expected to be fine as per reports, but then the extent of his injury is unknown. With Rohit Sharma unsure to play the match, India now faces a major conundrum in the opener’s spot.

Virat Kohli – Mystery Injury

Virat Kohli underwent scans on Thursday as per reports from Australia. The Mystery injury is still unknown but it is believed that the team management didn’t want to take a risk and got the scans done in order to be sure.

Though Virat Kohli hasn’t shown any signs of distress or injuries over the practice sessions and intra-squad friendlies, it is worth taking note that Virat Kohli might be injured. Overall it is not at all good signs for India.

Shubman Gill – Finger Injury

If KL Rahul’s injury wasn’t bad, India has more bad news. Ace top order batter Shubman Gill hurt his finger during the intra-squad friendly. And now there are major doubts if he will be able to play in the IND vs AUS 1st Test at Perth.

While fielding at the slip position, Gill hurt his finger while fielding. The BCCI Medical Team will be conducting an assessment of the player’s injury before taking a final call.

As things stand, the odds are heavily stacked against India. After 3-0 whitewash, 4-0 win is needed in BGT and coupling that with 3 injury concerns even before the start of the Test series.
