Champions Trophy 2025 row: ICC yet to receive reasons for India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan

The ICC is yet to receive a response from the BCCI explaining India's refusal to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to receive reasons from the BCCI for India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025. Earlier this week, the global body informed PCB about the BCCI’s decision, triggering a row. India last travelled to Pakistan in 2008 for Asia Cup following which geopolitical tension between the two countries forced the former to boycott cricket in the latter.

ICC yet to hear from BCCI on refusal to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy

As per Dawn, the PCB is awaiting a response from the ICC to contemplate on the future course of action amid the Champions Trophy row. A source told the publication that India’s strong position in world cricket made matters worse for Pakistan despite the PCB having a strong case. The source added that if the stalemate continues to prevail, then the ICC has no other option but to postpone the event.

[It seems] the ICC does not have a perfect solution for this matter. With only six days left for announcing the Champions Trophy schedule, if the current situation prevails the ICC will have no other solution but to postpone the event for some time,” sources said.

It is understood that the Indian government has denied permission to the team. While Pakistan has remained adamant over retaining the complete hosting right, the matter seems to be slipping out of their hands. Reports have claimed that the ICC could be mulling India or South Africa as the hosts if Pakistan do not consider the hybrid model.

Dragging India to court for refusing to travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025 was one of the threats issued by Pakistan. The other threats include withdrawing from the tournament if a hybrid model is adopted, boycotting future ICC events where India will be participating in and writing a letter to the ICC seeking clarity on why India refused to travel to Pakistan.
