5 overseas stars who could return to their former IPL teams in IPL 2025 Auction

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction will take place at Riyadh on 24th and 25th November, 2024

It isn’t an IPL Auction without players returning to their former IPL teams again. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction can provide perfect scenes with overseas stars making a return to their recently released clubs, either by RTMs or via rebuy. Heading into IPL 2025 Retention, many teams have released some of their key players whom they will aim to buy again from the mega auction.

Apart from the Indian stars who will go under the hammer, there are quite a few overseas stars who will also fetch big bucks in the IPL Auction. Be it the likes of Devon Conway or Mitchell Starc, we take a look at 5 such foreigners who can make a return to their former IPL sides from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Devon Conway

The Kiwi superstar deserves no introduction. After his latest heroics in India, it was believed that Chennai Super Kings would surely retain him. But the CSK think-tank had some other ideas. The destructive southpaw has showcased time and again that he can perform under pressure. Most importantly, he has performed off late well in India in the 3-0 whitewash. CSK will surely be eyeing to spill their cash to rope in their Kiwi opener again from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

With all the things that worked badly for Delhi Capitals last season, their saving grace was a young Australian attacker. Jake Fraser-McGurk is one such name that will surely make a lot of headlines as it did last season. The destructive top-order batter set the IPL 2024 season by storm with his pinch-hitting.

The Capitals will see Jake Fraser-McGurk going for big bucks in the auction and can quickly swoop in on the young batter with the RTM option.

Mitchell Starc

24.75 crores is what Kolkata Knight Riders spent for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc. Though he didn’t justify his price, the speedster bagged 17 rickets and eventually helped the Kolkata outfits become champions. KKR has previously made it clear that they would go for specialist players in the auction.

KKR couldn’t retain Starc in heading into the IPL 2025 Mega Auction and also has no RTMs remaining. But KKR can easily outbid others in re-buying their former star, this time at a much lesser price.

Tim David

Mumbai Indians too had their RTMs slot filled up after retaining the Indian big four. But Tim David is one such player on whom MI would be eager to reinvest. Last year Mumbai Indians traded off Cameron David to RCB, and an anchor in their middle order, they had the other mightily Aussie.

The pinch hitter will be available in the auction and will draw attention from all quarters. Mumbai Indians will find it a bit hard to fend off others, but can eventually bring their starman back.

Quinton de Kock

Lucknow Super Giants didn’t retain Proteas opener Quinton de Kock for the IPL 2025 Retention. The team kept their base core, saving a chunk of the money for Rishabh Pant. On the other hand, LSG is also keen on re-buying QDK, probably with their sole RTM remaining.

“If not even with the RTM, we will try to re-buy Quinton (de Kock) at the mega auction. Let’s see what happens at the auction,” a senior LSG official told InsideSport exclusively. With information straight from the horse’s mouth, there can be a real possibility of QDK reuniting with his former side.
