IPL Auction: KKR could look at Rinku Singh as Shreyas Iyer’s replacement in leadership role

IPL Auction: Rinku Singh has been with the KKR since 2018, and has played 46 matches for them so far.

With each passing day, a new surprise is being thrown to fans, as far as the IPL 2025, and IPL Auction is concerned. The latest googly being — Rinku Singh could replace Shreyas Iyer as the new skipper at KKR. As per a report in ABP, this could be a possibility, give the latter was released by the franchise.

Rinku Singh as Shreyas Iyer’s Replacement

If this indeed happens, it could be a solid move by KKR, who retained Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh as well, at IPL Retention on October 31. For the record, Rinku Singh has played all his matches for the same franchise, and the team also seem to have immense faith in him.

He has played 46 matches for the team, scoring 893 runs, at an average of 30. He boasts of a strike-rate of over 143, which is decent as well. Plus, he has already spent six years, so KKR have all the more reason to reward him with the captaincy responsibility. Other than that, he is a regular in Team India, having played 28 T20Is, scoring 499 runs at an average of almost 50.

Moreover, the team spent the most money (13Cr) for retaining him. Having said that, another reason could be, they have only 63 Cr left in the purse, and in a bid to get an Indian captain — someone like a KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant…could be a costly affair. Instead, this money could be used to strengthen their batting and bowling, and even wicket-keeping department, by getting someone like an Ishan Kishan.

Also, on their radar would be Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who slammed a ton vs BAN recently, and is an excellent batter. This year he scored 289 runs for the team, and could add more value in IPL 2025.
