India starts Border-Gavaskar Trophy preparations at WACA, Virat Kohli absent

India began their Border-Gavaskar Trophy preparations at WACA, with Pant and Jaiswal in the nets. Virat Kohli was absent.

India began their preparations for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a practice session at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) stadium in Perth on Tuesday. The much-anticipated series will start on November 22, with the first Test scheduled at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal Lead the Batting Sessions

A video shared by a Forbes cricket journalist on ‘X’ showed Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal among the first batters to get a feel of the conditions. However, the first batter to reach Australia, Virat Kohli, was not seen in the practice so far.

The pitch for the opening match is expected to offer pace and bounce, which is typical of Perth’s wickets. The journalist shared a picture of the red cricket ball that was reportedly sent over the nets by Jaiswal’s shot, landing on the adjacent road.

Restricted access for public at Training sessions

India’s training sessions at the WACA stadium are closed to the public, with a black sheet put up to cover the grill around the practice area. India also decided to cancel their scheduled practice match against India ‘A’, who are also touring Australia. Coach Gautam Gambhir and his staff felt that additional net practice would be more beneficial than a warm-up match.

India drops to second in World Test Championship

After a disappointing 0-3 defeat in their home Test series against New Zealand, India has dropped to second place in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
