IPL 2025: Why Kolkata Knight Riders need to re-buy Phil Salt at Mega Auction

KKR went on to retain 6 players in IPL 2025 Retention Day which means they have no RTMs in the Mega Auction

Kolkata Knight Riders need a strong middle-order batter for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And Phil Salt is the perfect candidate for the defending champions. KKR went on to retain 6 players on IPL 2025 Retention Day but the Englishman was not retained.

While KKR retained their core setup, it would be only logical for the Kolkata outfits to re-buy the destructive keeper batter. While teams will be eager to pay a huge sum for Phil Salt, KKR would dearly wish to bring back their star player.

KKR to re-but Phil Salt?

The aim of the Kolkata Knight Riders has been very to the point. Although they couldn’t retain their captain, i.e. Shreyas Iyer. But KKR’s plan is to maintain the core setup of players that managed to break their 10-year trophy jinx last season. As for the retentions, KKR retained 6 players, meaning they don’t have any RTMs in the auction.

KKR banked heavily on Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine as their star performers. Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh were retained as uncapped players. And Phil Salt’s recent rich vein of form can work wonders for the Knights.

The Englishman has been brutal against West Indies in the ongoing series. He slammed 18, 59, and 74 in the three ODI matches. And then went on to couple it with a massive 103* in the first T20I against the Caribbean side. And with IPL Auction on the horizon, his strong performances will surely earn him big bucks.
