‘Play all the formats’: AB de Villiers urges Team India to allow Sanju Samson to play all formats

Sanju Samson became the first Indian batter to slam 2 consecutive T20I tons in the history of the game

Sanju Samson has been hogging the limelight for all the right reasons. He became the first India Cricket Team batter to slam consecutive T20I tons. And his remarkable feat has seen South African great AB de Villiers come out and heap lavish praises for the Rajasthan Royals superstar.

Despite not playing a single game in the ICC T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson has taken everything to his chin and fought out harder. He recently slammed a magnificent century against the Proteas in the IND vs SA 1st T20I. His incredible knock has now forced de Villiers to claim that Sanju Samson is fully fit to be an all-format player for Team India.

Sanju Samson – The all-format player

As things stand, the competition in the team is tough. This means Sanju Samson is now reduced to be a part of the National setup in the shortest format of the game. He occasionally gets his chance in ODIs when the seniors take a break from a particular series.

“Sanju has upped the gear in his game. I hope the selectors are watching this for all the formats. I want to see this guy play all the formats. I think he is someone who is really, really special, someone who can play all the formats in all conditions around the world. Something has clicked in the Sanju Samson world; whether it’s the coaching staff, I doubt it,” ABD said on his YouTube channel.

The former Proteas great also claimed that the form Samson is in currently is now a reminder to the team think-tank that he can’t be ignored anymore. De Villiers further claimed that Sanju Samson has now reached his maturity point and now needs to switch on his next gear to take the world by storm.

“No disrespect to VVS Laxman, Gautam Gambhir, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel, whoever is a part of the coaching group. I just feel that this guy has reached the maturity point; he has realised something. It is exciting to all of us Samson fans. I think there is another gear, a sixth gear; I want to see it unfold,” ABD concluded.
