Abhimanyu Easwaran has faltered yet again. And with his fourth tryout ending in vain, all hopes for the Bengal opener to get his Test debut have now gone bleak. Playing for India A, Easwaran 7 and 12 in the first game and managed 0 and 17 in the second game.
India needs to find an opener to partner with Yashasvi Jaiswal. The reason is Rohit Sharma’s unavailability in the 1st Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at Perth. With Easwaran faltering, another option that India has is Sai Sudharsan. But that hope has also dried up after the 23-year-old managed to score just 3 runs in the second innings of India A.
Who will open for India?
The most pertinent question at the moment is – Who will partner Yashasvi Jaiswal? Abhimanyu Easwaran was tipped to take the opening spot. The Bengal opener has been in tremendous form in domestic cricket. The run machine went on to register 5 first-class centuries in the last 8 innings.
But now when it matters the most, Easwaran has faltered for India A in Australia. While his chances are bleak it is not 0 at this moment. On the other hand, KL Rahul too has failed. The veteran batter could manage to score just 10 runs before being dismissed.
While the opening order conundrum continues, India faces a mighty tough job in the upcoming IND vs AUS Test series. India needs to win the series 4-0 to automatically qualify for the WTC Finals.
