In a major development for Bihar’s sports infrastructure, the Bihar government has signed a 30-year lease with the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) for the redevelopment of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna. The project aims to transform the iconic stadium into an international-standard sports complex, ushering in a new era for sports in the state.
Landmark Agreement for Bihar Cricket
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a ceremony attended by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Bihar Sports Director Mahendra Kumar, and BCA President Rakesh Tiwari. Under this agreement, the BCA will manage the stadium’s redevelopment, which will include constructing state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to meet international standards. For the first seven years, BCA will pay a nominal lease amount of Rs 1 per year, after which it will share 50% of the stadium’s profits with the Bihar government, post expenses and taxes.
“This redevelopment is a huge leap forward for cricket and sports in Bihar,” stated BCA President Tiwari. “We aim to create a top-tier sports complex that meets international standards. The BCA is committed to fulfilling all of the government’s expectations in this ambitious project.”
Plans for World-Class Sports Complex in Bihar
The redevelopment of Moin-ul-Haq Stadium is set to create a comprehensive sports and entertainment hub. The plans include seating for 40,000 spectators, 76 corporate boxes, 250 VIP boxes, and a range of additional amenities.
These will include courts for badminton and volleyball, a swimming pool, five-star hotels, player hostels, restaurants, a clubhouse, and numerous other facilities. The project envisions creating a premier sporting complex that can host large-scale national and international events.
Government support to drive Sports Culture
At the MoU signing ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary urged the BCA to complete all formalities within two months, targeting a January foundation stone-laying ceremony with Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah. Choudhary also announced a waiver of the Rs 37 crore registration fee for the BCA, underscoring the state’s commitment to fostering sports and mainstreaming cricket in Bihar.
“This redevelopment project holds immense potential to uplift sports culture in Bihar and bring local talent into the mainstream,” Choudhary noted.
New Chapter for Bihar’s Sporting aspirations
With the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium set to undergo a transformation, Bihar stands poised to become a key destination for sports in India. This redevelopment project not only promises to enhance facilities for cricket but also envisions a multi-sport complex that will inspire a new generation of athletes.
The agreement between the Bihar government and BCA marks a significant step towards realising the state’s ambitions in promoting sports and providing a world-class platform for players and fans alike.
