Right after the IPL Retentions, it is time now for the WPL Retentions, that will be announced by all the franchises on November 7. Since this will be a mini-auction anyways, there is no specific limit, as to how many players need to be released or retained by each team. Now with that, fans are curious to know, what players will be kept by WPL 2024 champions RCB.
Smriti Mandhana & Ellyse Perry Must Retentions
Under the leadership of India opener Smriti Mandhana, the team got their hands on first-ever trophy. This after they had a horrid 2023 campaign, where they lost five consecutive matches. Players like Shreyanka Patil, Ellyse Perry, Asha Sobhana, and Sohie Devine, all had stellar campaigns and played crucial role in title win. So it won’t take much effort for the team to retain them all.
Apart from that, Sophie Molineux, Dani Wyatt, and Kate Cross will also be in the running for RCB retention. It is a no-brainer that their first preference for the keeper will be India’s Richa’s Ghosh – who scored 257 runs in 10 matches this year. She had a strike-rate of 142, that proved to be the differentiator as well.
WPL Retention on Nov 7
Another player that RCB would want in their team is England skipper Heather Knight, who did not play this year. In 123 T20Is, she has scored 2094 runs at a strike-rate of 120, and has one ton and seven fifties to her name.
But there only a handful of players, who failed to make a mark for RCB in WPL 2024. Nadine de Klerk was that all-rounder, who was rather unimpressive. In one match, she only scored 1 run and picked up two wickets. Another failure was Simran Bahadur, who in six matches could score only three runs.
